Babies

I just got back from seeing The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which was cussing fabulous, as they say in the film. I'm sure everyone's seen it already so I won't go into detail. What I do want to tell you about is a trailer I saw before Fox started. It's called Babies and it looks great. Sure to have us all reexamining our cultures parenting.

Here's the synopsis from the website:
A visually stunning and joyful new film that simultaneously chronicles the lives of four of the world’s newest human inhabitants - in Mongolia, Namibia, San Francisco, and Tokyo, respectively -- from first breath to first steps, on a journey at once universal and amazingly original.

Just the trailer is an eye opening experience.

It's Complicated

I don't know if anyone else has read any of these reviews saying less than glowing things about the movie It's Complicated, but I think those reviewers are on glue. Seriously, what movie did they see. I went to see it yesterday, and it was fabulous. I could not have loved it more. I laughed till I cried. It literally made me want to be a divorced 50 year old women!!
My only complaints would be I wish there were more Steve Martin in it and I wish there were just more of the whole movie. Why don't they ever make three hour romantic comedies? The entire cast is amazing, I love the fiance guy, from The Office, too. OK so what I'm saying is go see it. NOW

Did You Hear About The Morgans?

Last night I was invited, by Sony Publicity, to see a preview of "Did You Hear About The Morgans?". I'll tell you I didn't have high hopes going in. I mean how many times can we see the fish out of water romantic comedy. But it changed my mind.
First there is the cast, nobody is a better rom. com. leading man than Hugh Grant. I'm sure that pained squinty expression of his is part, "I can't believe I'm doing another one of these movies" but he really is adorable in this kind of part. Sarah Jessica Parker is delightful as his leading lady, as always. I do enjoy her.
The supporting cast of Sam Elliot And Mary Steenburgen as their witness relocation supervisors/marriage counselors is great. Truth be told I love Sam Elliot, he's dreamy. Cowboy mustache and all. Also he gets a great line about what marriage really is, that I loved.
Then there is the script which really is delightful. Reminiscent of my favorite black and white romantic comedies in places. The sound track is quite good too. And as a final bonus we get to see Elisabeth Moss, who plays Peggy on Mad Men.
I highly recommend it.

Yahoo's Purple Acts of Kindness

A few weeks ago I told you how Yahoo had given me $100 to perform an act of kindness. Well, today I did it. I paid for peoples postage at the post office. It was amazing how grateful people were and how happy it made them.
I thought I'd be there a long time but with the holidays the packages were big and it only took two people to more than max out my money. I'll tell you it gave me quite the high too!
I highly recommend it. If you decide to do something post it at Yahoo's Purple Acts of Kindness.

A Single Man

I just saw an ad for this movie A Single Man the other day and it looks like it might be really good. The critic are definitely in love with it. It stars Colin Firth (hubba hubba) and Julianne Moore. It's set in 1962, and what I gather is about a man who has lost his long time "partner" (why don't they just say boyfriend, it always sounds like a law firm). It's one day in the man's life and his struggles with what to do with his life all set against the backdrop of the Cuban missile crisis.
It sounds intense but good. For you Mad Men fan's out there it could be a good little fix.
I hope to get out to see it one day this week it's at The Landmark so you can check there for listings and a better description, or if you're not in Los Angeles just check your local art house theatre.

Konami Frogger

A few weeks ago Konami Digital Entertainment (you know, the people that brought us Dance Dance Revolution)invited me to a party at their offices, with lots of food and games, and lovely parting gifts. I had a great time playing Dance Dance revolution on the Wii balance board, and singing Karaoki.
But just the other day they sent me a press release that they now have Frogger Returns available for download for both the playstation and the Wii.
I don't know if you remember Frogger it's a video game where you try to get a little frog across various streets, ponds, and what have you. I played this game all the time on my Atari, as a kid. My favorite was to lay upside down on the floor for a little added difficulty.
So I have warm memories of it and just thought I'd share that it is now available for you and your children to download to your gaming systems.
Have fun!

Mad Men Season One

On Demand is running the first season of Mad Men. So if you've been wanting to watch the show, but think you're too far behind, now is the time to catch up and without commercial interruption. By the time season 4 rolls around this summer you'll be as familiar with Mad Men phrases like "I don't know if that's true" and "this never happened" as the rest of us.
I envy you!
For the rest of us, it's something to get us through till August.

Last night on TNT

By chance, I noticed one of my favorite shows, The Closer, started it's season last night. Whew..That was close. Anyway, It was good and I was glad that my tivo alerted me to my oversight.

After The Closer was over I watched the new show Men of a Certain Age. This Stars Ray Romano, Scott Bakula, and Andre Braugher. It's about three guys in mid life. For me the jury is still out. I have to admit I don't find the characters that sympathetic, but that may just be because I have my own mid life man to deal with.
It is interesting to see Ray Romano in a serious role. Scott Bakula is hunky as always, I still miss Quantum Leap. Andre Braugher's character is the most sympathetic, as he is struggling to support a family and deal with diabetes, all while trying to prove himself to his father who he works for. Poor bastard.
First episodes are hard to gauge since they are mostly just setting up the back story, but I'm definitely going to watch of few of these, if for no other reason than to get some insight into my own man of a certain age. Worse case scenario it'll make me grateful for having it so good.

It Happened One Night on TCM

It Happened One Night is on TCM tonight at 5pm pt. If you have some how missed this movie. You really have got to see it. TCM has been showing an interview with Frank Capra talking about the making of the film, and it's amazing. No one wanted to do it. Apparently, Claudette Colbert only agreed when they doubled here rate and Clark Gable was forced into it as so sort of punishment. Fortunately they did it, because this movie truly deserves to be called classic, from using your leg to get a ride to hanging a sheet across a room. You'll love it, I guarentee!!

PS it's immediately followed by Mr Deed Goes To Town, Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur doing what they do best. It's great TV for a rainy night.
