Book of Mormon Coming to LA's Pantages

Book of Mormon is coming to LA's Pantages Theatre in September! It hasn't been announced when tickets go on sale, but I'll let you know as soon as I hear. The show is only running 12 weeks, and I wouldn't be surprised if it sells out every show. With that in mind I'd buy tickets as soon as they go on sale.

Just FYI I have heard that the show can be a bit....what's the right word....to put it nicely let's say irreverent. I guess if you've seen South Park (Trey Parker and Matt Stone created South Park and Book of Mormon), you know what you're getting yourself in to. I think it's going to be amazing, but you should know what you're signing up for.

Stay tuned for more details.

LA Theatre Ticket Deals

I got two good tips on theatre ticket deal today

First there's $39 tickets to The 39 Step at The Ahmanson. Use Promotion Code: 39OFFER. It closes May 16, so act fast.

Then there's a discount for A Chorus Line at The Pantages. Up to $20 off select seats, I'm not sure what that means but check it out. I already bought full price tickets so it's too late for me. Use Promotion code BLA20. It runs June 1-13.

Enjoy the great live theatre in LA!!!!!

Nightmare Alley and Chicago

I've been to two great shows this week. First Nightmare Alley at The Geffen Playhouse. This a new musical, and the music is great. I really think everyone will love this show.
Also while I was there I saw that they're having a production of Love, Loss, and What I Wore. This is a Nora Ephron play, so now I have tickets to that too.

Then last night I was a guest at the opening night of Chicago at The Pantages. I have never seen this show live before and I loved it. I love Fosse choreography and of course the music in this show is great.

The Color Purple Presale

Here's a presale notice for The Color Purple. Just in time for the holidays. I saw this show last year at The Ahmanson and it was really great. If you haven't seen it you should, or it's a great present for that hard to buy for person.
Enjoy it!!

Ahmanson Season Tickets

Every year for my mother's birthday, my sister and I get her season tickets to The Ahmanson (a theatre here in LA). Over the years we've seen some real stinkers, or things we just didn't care for but there was always a balance of good things too, that made it worth it. But this year I got the subscriber packet and was stunned by the lameness of the season. All but one show is several years if not decades old. Here's the line up, in no particular order. Dream Girls, Spamalot, Mary Poppins, South Pacific, and the only show I want to see August:Osage County.
Now how wise was this in a year where people are looking to eliminate extra spending? All of these shows have been done to death. Anyone who goes to the theatre regularly has seen them all. Just one of these in the season would have been fine, but to make it the whole season is ridiculous. Suffice to say I am forgoing season tickets this year and will just go see the one show I want to see.
I thought we might switch to The Pantages (another theatre in town) but their season is looking pretty dismal too. Is it possible there are no good shows??? Are they trying to save money by getting cheaper shows?? What's going on??? Until they get it sorted I'll be buying tickets for individual shows and I advise you to too.
