Doing a Cleanse Update

Well here I am at the end of two solid weeks of only eating meat, veggies and fruit, oh and rice. And you know what I'm not feeling so hot. That's right the last several days I've had a persistent headache and kind of a yucky belly. I don't know if it's just detoxing from sugar, caffeine, and all the other good stuff or what. But I hope it ends soon.
A few weeks ago I wrote a guest blog for Diets in Review which is posting today about whether to have a colonic or not, and I'm thinking now may be the time to go for it. Maybe it will clean me out that last bit and get me over these DT's. Plus maybe I can get some vitamins from the colon therapist to help support my cleansing. Maybe then I won't feel so crappy (if you'll excuse the pun).
Whatever I do, it won't be till next week, we're camping this weekend. Imagine my excitement at roasting marshmallows (did you know it was mallows and not mellows?I guess I'm always to busy sticking them in my mouth to look at the writing on the bag.) around the campfire....Sigh

American Foundation for Equal Rights

Hopefully this will be successful.

Ain't Misbehavin'

Last night I went to see Ain't Misbehavin' at the Ahmanson Theatre here is Los Angeles. I wish I liked it better. I love my Fats Waller, but this was delivered with such a lack of enthusiasm, I left at intermission. The cast really seemed like they were sleep walking through it.
Next week I'll be seeing Dirty Dancing at The Pantages, and I hope I'll be break this run of not so great shows.
Wish me luck!

Sonia Sotomayer

Obama announces Sonia Sotomayer for Souter's supreme court seat

I'm so happy to see a (possible)third women on the supreme court, as well as, it's first Latina. I can't believe that the conservatives are saying she'll let her "personal feelings" shade her rulings. I want to say, you mean like you old white men have for the last 250 years??? It is actually that their afraid she won't have the same "personal feelings" they do, and thank goodness for that. Let's start having rulings that reflect more than just one mind set.

Doing a Cleanse Update

Today is the start of day 9 on the cleanse. I'm feeling really great and my skin is looking much better. I lost 7 pounds the first week but have plateaued the last two days. I actually made it through my daughters birthday party without eating any sugar. I stared at her pinata candy all week but managed to stay strong. I'm thinking another week and then a few days fast (drinking water, lemon, maple syrup concoction), Then another few weeks of no sugar, gluten, alcohol, etc..
I should really just stay away from sugar all together, I think it really makes my allergies worse, or maybe it's the dairy??? I'm not sure. Anyway I'll do my best to limit it all for as long as I can.
That's the scoop here.

Inside the Actors Studio/Bouillon de Culture Questionaire

Since everyone has been doing all these lists about themselves I thought I'd rip off "Inside the Actors Studio and James Lipton, who ripped off "Bouillon de Culture" and Bernard Pivot for their list of questions to answer about myself. So here it is.

What is your favorite word?

I like the sound of Profligate. Merriam-Webster defines it as 1 : completely given up to dissipation and licentiousness 2 : wildly extravagant. I rarely find I'm able to work it into conversation but I do like it.

What is your least favorite word?
Stupid. It seems like a innocent enough word but in the wrong hands it can really do some serious damage.

What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Music. And alcohol of course.

What turns you off?
People who blither on and on about nothing interesting. (yikes that might be me)

What is your favorite curse word?
Shit. Pretty basic, but it does the job.

What sound or noise do you love?
I know everyone who has kids answers this one with my child's laughter. But I gotta say, since having a child the sound I most enjoy is silence. It's rare in my house and when I get it I cherish it. Sorry Kid.

What sound or noise do you hate?
My child crying. It is physically painful to me to her my daughter cry.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
At the moment I'm holding down several positions, Mother, Massage Therapist, Blogger, and school volunteer. I guess If I had to add to the list I would like to be a singer in some capacity.

What profession would you not like to do?
Any job where you have to be in an office all day long.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
Aren't you glad you were wrong. Your father and the rest of your family are waiting for you.

So that's it. Feel free to meme, James Lipton did. I hope I did Lipton and Pivot proud.

Religulous

I watched Bill Maher's movie Religulous last night. I gotta say I enjoyed it. Maher often rubs me the wrong way, with some of his misogynistic jokes, but this time he got it mostly right. As long as he was being funny it was good. I thought he came off a bit hard on the Muslims. It seemed like he wasn't willing to believe that any Muslims were good at heart. So, that was a big miss, but the rest was pretty hysterical. I totally recommend it.

Doing a Cleanse

After a lovely week on vacation, full of lots of not so healthy food and several margaritas (I know in the picture I'm drinking a bloody mary. But you get the idea), I've started a cleanse. I use to do them all the time before I had my daughter, but it's been many years and I think the pipes could use a good cleaning out. I'm on day 4 and feeling pretty good.
I've cut out all sugar, dairy, gluten, alcohol, and caffeine. It's going to take me a while a remember how I use to eat this way. I need to get over to Whole Foods for some Stevia (natural sugar substitute) and some starch substitutes (rice pasta or something)But so far so good and I've lost 3.5 pound since I started, so that's a nice bonus. I might even do a few day fast in a week or so, once I get the bod use to the cleaner food. I don't want to shock it to badly. I'm sure it's already wondering what's happened to it's evening sweets, and endless supply of cheese.
I'll keep you surmised of my progress as the weeks go by. Wish me luck.

LA Mom's Blog

I have a new post up at LA Mom's Blog
Does watching such violent shows on TV all the time make us paranoid that danger is just around the corner in the real world?
Check it out and let me know your opinion.

SNL Mother's Day

This speaks for itself CLASSIC!!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy mother's day! Hope every mom out there is getting treated like the most deserving person she is. Being a mom is the hardest, most relentless job I've ever had and some how a little quiche one Sunday a year is the compensation. No..of course there is your child's every accomplishment, hug, and smile. But don't get carried away ladies, tomorrow you return to the selfless, workaholic, indenture servant that is every mothers job description.
To my own mother I'd like to add, thanks for everything, from the 24 hour breech delivery, the joy that was my adolescents, all the babysitting you do for me now, and everything in between
Happy Mother's Day!!!!

Schick Quattro Bush Ad

I can't believe this commercial for schick quattro trim razor for women. I saw it last night while I was watching Brothers and Sisters and completely lost it laughing. Someone has a good sense of humor at the ad agency.
