20th Century Fox Commissary Photos

After many years of peering through the Fox Studio commissary windows at the beautiful and historic murals, I finally snuck got in today and got some pictures. The mural was painted in 1935 with a few additions in the year that followed. The Fox commissary mural is a map of all the places Fox had filmed and features cameos bysome of their biggest stars at the time Janet Gaynor, Will Rogers, Shirley Temple, and Warner Oland.

I've scoured the internet for more information about the mural and it's origin with little to no success. All the information I collected is in this post. If anyone has any further details please share in the comments.

Janet Gaynor surfing in Honolulu, with close up below.

Warner Oland being remembered for his Charlie Chan role.

Shirley Temple welcoming everyone to Hollywood. Close up below.

Will Rogers apparently never met a pig he didn't like, either. Rogers died in 1935, based on the lightheartedness, I'm guessing after this was painted

20th Century Fox studio has the oldest renovated commissary. I've been in most of the commissary and the others are all modern and without history. Hopefully, this one will stay just as it is forever.

20th Century Fox Back Lot Tour

I got to go on the 20th Century Fox lot today for a screening of Percy Jackson: Seas Of Monsters (which looks quite good by the way) and I took the opportunity to wander around the lot a little. There was nothing going on in their back lot area so I got lots of picture and I thought I would share them with you. Hope you enjoy them.

This is what the back side looks like. There are some patio railing ( if you look closely, you can see them) so I assume on occasion they dress the back sides for them, but not today.

I love all the facades. I wish I knew what was filmed here. If anyone knows please fill me in. The 1869 (below) if permanent might be easy to spot if I'm looking for it, which I will be now.

This little movie theatre is gorgeous, I love the ladies above it. See below for detail of them.

And check out the creepy alley. I thought I was going to get mugged just looking at it.

Here are a bunch of detail shot. It's amazing all the intricate work of the facades. Much of it has been painted over so many times it's beginning to loose it definition, but I still love it.

Hope you enjoyed my mini tour of the back lot a 20th Century Fox. It's sad they don't do tours because it really is one of the prettiest lots in LA.

Ice Age Continental Drift

Last weekend my daughter and I attended a screening of Ice Age 4 Continental Drift, that opens tomorrow. What could be better than a Saturday morning watching cartoons in a theatre full of kids, I know I can think of a lot of things too, but it really was a great way to see this movie.

I defer to my child's expertise in animated films and she declared this one extremely funny. In fact she said it was her favorite of all of the Ice Age movies, which she has seen numerous times, as we own the entire franchise on DVD. For myself I didn't like it "better" than all the others, but it was very funny and I'm confident parents will enjoy seeing this with their kids.

My daughter loves the iPhone/iPad app of Ice Age, which has this Scrat short, so she's been showing the below to everyone for months.

Finally, I do love the message of all the Ice Age films, that your family is not based on people who look like you but those who love and support you. So, as many times as these guys want to reinforce that message I'm happy to see it.

Glee Season 2

Glee season 2 starts this Tuesday. I just watched Glee: The Complete First Season(affiliate link) and I have to say LOVED IT! Love the music, love the dancing, love love love the diversity. I thought it was just some teen show when I heard about it last year, but Fox sent me the first season and I am a complete convert. Course, you all know I love my musicals, so this can't be much of a surprise.
The only criticism I have, is that every female character is crazy. I hate to be the angry feminist women, but if the burnt bra fits...with women lying about pregnancies, being clean freaks, overly competitive to the point of criminal, it's hard to miss. Especially when the two male leads are squeaky clean and ridiculously understanding.
But apart from that the show is flawless.

Amelia on DVD Giveaway

The people at 20th Century Fox sent me a copy of their new DVD release Amelia last week. Which worked out really well, because I've had a really nasty cold and it was nice to lie in bed and watch a good movie.

I really enjoyed the film, as well as the bonus features. My favorite bonus feature was definitely the original news reel footage of Amelia. There were also quite a few deleted scenes, which were interesting to get a little more of the backstory.

On a personal note. My grandmother once worked as a secretary for an evening at the Ambassador Hotel for Amelia, her husband, and a friend of theirs in the late 20's. She had nothing but glowing things to say about Amelia, maybe because they were both from Kansas, or maybe because Amelia paid her $20 buck and cab fare. Either way she loved Amelia.

HOW TO ENTER:
20th Century Fox has also offered to give 3 copies of the film to my readers so if you would like one please leave a comment, make sure to leave contact info. (if you have a blogger acct and are set on private, leave an email). Entrants must be in the contiguous US.

I'll announce winners on Tuesday. Good Luck!

THE WINNERS!!!!!!!!!!
