Fonda & Tomlin are Grace and Frankie @netflix #TV @GraceandFrankie #GraceandFrankie

Grace and Frankie Cast Waterston, Tomlin, Fonda, Sheen

Netflix is releasing Grace and Frankie May 8th. Make note of that I will be completely off the grid that day to binge all 13 episodes. Just look at the cast and you know it's going to be amazing. Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda play the wives of two men who announce they are in love and want to get married. Afterward they develop a "friendship" to cope with their stages of grief for their respective marriages. I have no problem believing hilarity will ensue. I could watch these four read the phone book, but this looks to be a very funny situation set in a painful life transition.

This Is Where I Leave You Opens Friday #TIWILY

This Is Where I Leave You Jonathan Trooper and Elise

This is Where I Leave You opens this Friday and it is just as good as it looks, possibly even better. I was invited to a screening and lunch with the author and screen writer, Jonathan Trooper and it was difficult not to fawn all over him after watching the film.

As Jonathan said it is difficult to make a film that is equal parts comedy and drama and probably even hard to get a studio to make it, but this is just such a movie. You know those movies where you know all the laughs in it from seeing the trailer? Well this is not one of those, not even close. You are laughing through this entire film and every now and then you wipe away a tear and think " hey how did they get me all emotional and crying without me noticing?"

I admit that this film was highly relateable for me as the youngest of four children. It definitely reminded me of events during my father's passing with my own sibling heirarchy. Though my mother is yet to get a breast augmentation.  But you don't need to have lived it to get it. The main issue is just people trying to figure it out. There is a running gag of a toddler working on potty training throughout the film and it really is representational of all these characters just trying to learn how to deal with basic life issues.

The cast is stellar beginning with legend Jane Fonda and if possible picking up steam with Tina Fey and lead Jason Bateman. The rest of the cast is rounded out by a who's who of great TV show actors Adam Driver (“Girls”), Rose Byrne (“Neighbors,” “Bridesmaids”), Corey Stoll (“House of Cards,” “Midnight in Paris”), Kathryn Hahn (“Parks and Recreation”), Connie Britton (“Nashville”), Timothy Olyphant (“Justified”), Dax Shepard (“Parenthood”), Debra Monk (“Damages”), Abigail Spencer (“Rectify”), and Ben Schwartz (“House of Lies”)

@TCM Summer Under The Stars Every Day In August #SUTS

Tomorrow is the first day of TCM's Summer Under The Stars. Each day in August a different star will be the focus of an all day marathon of their films. Up first is the amazing Jane Fonda, including her recent AFI Lifetime Achievement Ceremony.

If you are tight on DVR space I recommend Sunday In New York, The China Syndrome, Klute, and of course the AFI. Below is the entire schedule for the exceptionally hardy. If you are a tweeter (as in one who is on Twitter) folllow the #SUTS or #(Last name of star of the day) TCM , as seen below #FondaTCM.

The Newsroom Returns to HBO

Aaron Sorkin's Newsroom returns to HBO this Sunday. The show is definitely controversial, the right wing thinks it's liberal propaganda. I actually witness a room of feminist journalist try to devour Sorkin for what they feel is a sexist show. I admit, as a liberal and a feminist, I see their points, but I still love the show.

The cast is stellar with leads Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, and Sam Waterston. The supporting cast is equally fabulous, perhaps the best example being THE Jane Fonda, as well as, my personal fave Olivia Munn.

I'll definitely be busy Sunday nights till it's season is complete. Join me...

Jane Fonda TCL Grauman's Print Ceremony #TCMFF

One of my favorite parts of the TCM Film Festival is the hand print ceremony at The Chinese Theatre. This year the honoree was Jane Fonda. She brought her personality to the print by doing one hand in a peace sign. You gotta love it. Jane's prints will go right next to her father's, which is so touching.

Jane's son Troy Garrity spoke about how meaningful it is to him to be able to put his hand in his grandfather's prints, who died when he was 9. Also how he hopes that young women will take inspiration from standing in his mother's prints.

Next Lily Tomlin, Jane's 9 to 5 co star and close friend talked. Lily had the crowd laughing talking about Jane's frequent expression "we just have to make a leap of faith" saying that she does it so often it may be why she is in such great shape. Maybe we should all stay tuned for Jane's next exercise tape, Leap of Faith to toned thighs...

Finally the last speaker was Maria Shriver. She didn't give us any details but told us that she was 13 years old when she first met Jane. She went on to say that she appreciated Jane's example of coming from a famous family, and a famous marriage and coming through it whole.

When Jane came out she talked about how she had hoped as a young actress to someday get to do her prints, but as the years went by thought that the only way she was going to get to do her handprints in this town was if they repaved the sidewalk in front of her house.

She was very emotional about having her prints next to her father's. She told us how her father had always warned her about letting people in Hollywood walk all over her. Joking that now everyone could walk all over both of them.

Jane and Peter admiring her penmanship.

Jane, Peter, Shirley (Henry Fonda's widow), Troy Garrity

The whole gang looking very proud. The whole thing reminded me of a graduation ceremony. Very Sweet!

Jane Fonda at TCM Film Festival

TCM just announced that they will be honoring Jane Fona at this years TCM film festival. She will have her cement prints done at Grauman's, that's right I'm still calling it Grauman's, what kind of history is there to TCL Chinese Theatre?? TCM will also be screening On Golden Pond with an introduction by Jane and hopefully some interviewing by Robert Osborne.

I don't think it really had anything to do with it, but I did suggest last year on my survey that they get Jane and or Peter. I'm sure a lot of other people thought so too. It is true that Jane Fonda doesn't seem to get the same level of attention as Sally Field and other actresses of her generation. I suppose that is probably because she has taken some long breaks, but I'm happy she'll be getting gushed over at the TCM Film Festival.

I do wish they would show some of her earlier films like Barefoot In The Park, Sundays In New York, and I'm sure there would be a sell out audience for Barbarella. Oh well, happy to be getting what we got. Now the long wait till April 25th.

There have been some murmuring about Barbra Striesand coming to the opening night screening of Funny Girl. If that actually happens this Film Festiva lwill be completely insane. Every year it gets bigger and bigger, which is a bit sad but great for TCM and great to reach more fans. We'll just have to wait and see.

Hope to see you there!

The Newsroom on HBO

The Newsroom premieres this Sunday, June 24th on HBO. If you feel the way I do about writer/producer Aaron Sorkin, you have been waiting, not to patiently, for this. With a cast that includes Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston, and Jane Fonda, it's a guaranteed home run. Ooh did I mention, my not so secret girl crush, Olivia Munn is in it too?

The premise is a popular newscaster who is no longer able to hold his tongue and starts reporting the news without network filtering. It's the 24 hour news cycle turned on it's ear. I think it's going to make newscasters around the country VERY uncomfortable and me VERY happy. I'm sure it will be full of insanely sharp rapid fire dialogue, and commentary on current events.

I can't wait!!! See you Sunday, until then here's the trailer to whet your viewing appetite.

Sunday in New York

One of my favorite movies is on TCM tomorrow at 11:00am pt. It's Sunday in New York. It stars Jane Fonda, Rod Taylor, and Cliff Robertson. It's a hysterical screw ball sex comedy from 1964(which just happens to be the year Mad Men is going into). All set to the cool jazz of Peter Nero. I think everyone would love it. So if you don't happen to be home tomorrow in the middle of the day, make sure to Tivo it.

Here's a link to the trailer, sorry I couldn't find one to embed.
