Tuesday Night TV

Holy Smokes!!! I just realized how much TV I have to watch Tuesday nights. By, have to, I mean I love too much to ever miss. It starts with Glee, then Flipping Out, The Good Wife, and Parenthood.
Taking the last one first Parenthood, is the show I love to hate. It makes me a little crazy but I can't miss it. Last night they had Joyce (Zosia Mamet) from Mad Men and Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) from True Blood on Parenthood. It looks like they are both reoccurring characters, so that is an extra bonus.
The Good Wife Premiered last night. I just love love this show. Alan Cumming's character is getting very meaty. I can't believe he erased Alicia's messages. He's bad and now he's in cahoots with Alicia's mother in law. Not to mention, the dreamy new partner Derrick Bond played by Michael Ealy.
Flipping Out reminds me of my old personal assistant days. Jeff Lewis makes my old employers look like angels. He is such a bundle of neurosis but he is still very likable somehow.
Glee is my new love. Sometimes I think I really only like the singing and dancing. Especially, last night with all the great Brittany Spears numbers. Who knew that Brit (Heather Morris) was such a great dancer, her numbers were really stand out. The story lines are kind of silly, but as long as I get plenty of musical fodder, I don't care.
So that's Tuesday night, fire up your DVRs and join me, you'll be glad you did.

Michael J. Fox on The Good Wife

The Good Wife premieres on CBS September 28th, starring Julianna Margulies. I was already excited, but I just heard Michael J. Fox is going to guest this season. Apparently he'll be playing a slimey lawyer. Is that redundant?
I love this show and I love Michael J. Fox, so it's just win win for me. Oh!! and Alan Cumming is on The Good Wife, so it's win win win. Also Chris Noth...well you see where this is going.
I guess you know where I'll be September 28th. Care to join me...

The Good Wife

Of all the new show I thought I would love before the television season started, I think I love The Good Wife most.
If you haven't seen it, Here's CBS' synopsis:

?THE GOOD WIFE is a drama starring Emmy Award winner Julianna Margulies as a wife and mother who boldly assumes full responsibility for her family and re-enters the workforce after her husband's very public sex and political corruption scandal lands him in jail. Pushing aside the betrayal and public humiliation caused by her husband, Peter, Alicia Florrick starts over by pursuing her original career as a defense attorney. As a junior associate at a prestigious Chicago law firm, she joins her longtime friend, former law school classmate and firm partner Will Gardner, who is interested to see how Alicia will perform after 13 years out of the courtroom. Alicia is grateful the firm's top litigator, Diane Lockhart, offers to mentor her but discovers the offer has conditions and realizes she's going to need to succeed on her own merit. Alicia's main competition among the firm's 20-something new recruits is Cary, a recent Harvard grad who is affable on the surface, but is competitive to the core. Fortunately, Alicia finds an ally in Kalinda, the firm's tough in-house investigator. Gaining confidence every day, Alicia transforms herself from embarrassed politician's scorned wife to resilient career woman, especially for the sake of providing a stable home for her children, 14-year-old Zach and 13-year-old Grace. For the first time in years, Alicia trades in her identity as the "good wife" and takes charge of her own destiny.

Now back to me:

Like many law shows The Good Wife centers on a different case every week, with a little personal drama thrown in here and there. But in this show the cases are almost metaphorical to Alicia's story. Cases turn on issues where witnesses have lied for a variety of reasons. Some lies start out innocently enough, a security guard who just copies the same video rather than go out and make his rounds. But when the tape becomes evidence in a murder, he has to admit (on the stand and proven by a plastic bag that blows through every nights video)his lie.
In another case a women is certain of her identification of a black man she witnessed robbing a store. But when pictures are switched on her she has to admit that any black man in the red sweat shirt the robber was wearing looks the same to her. Her perception of the truth is erroneous.
I could give you more examples but I think you get my drift. The show is looking at how bending the truth either consciously or unconsciously, to a large or small degree can spiral into so much more than we ever intended. And even though it may have terrible repercussions, the liar did not necessarily start out with malicious intent.
The Good Wife might be standing by her man because she knows how the lie started and how it turned into a criminal offense, or just a humiliating news story. I love it. The older I get the more I see how moral issues I once thought were black and white are much more complicated and this show is all about the complications.

CBS Season

Yesterday, after some wandering around the studio I finally found the screening room where I had been invited to watch some of CBS's new shows for this season. It was cool to see some of my blogging buddies and meet some that I'd never seen in real life. I only ended up staying for about half of it, but the other half was all CW shows, that I always think of as shows for the young and hip, and I think we all know that is not me.
So here are the shows I did see.

The Good Wife which I reviewed a month or so ago. Loved it. See previous review here.Premieres Sept. 22 10et/pt

Three Rivers this is a show about transplant doctors. It looks pretty heavy, I was borderline crying watching the cut-down of one episode about an organ donation. So be prepared, although the creator, Carol Barbee, said not every episode would involve someone dying. They'll have siblings giving kidneys, parents giving organs where the drama will involve more family dynamic than death. I also asked if they'd get into any of the stories where people get transplants and it changes their personality in some way and she said yes. I'm looking forward to this one. Premieres Oct. 4th 9et/pt

NCIS: Los Angeles I don't watch the NCIS that is already on so I don't really know about that show. This one looks fabulous though. It has an amazing cast, Chris O'Donnell, LL Cool J, and Linda Hunt. Their chemistry looks great so I'll definitely be working this into my TV rotation. Sept. 22 9et/pt

Accidentally on Purpose is a show about a, shall we say, middle aged woman who gets pregnant after a somewhat drawn out one night stand with a 20 something guy. It stars Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg), who I love, bringing the cute curly hair do. It also stars Ashley Jensen from Extras, who is as zany and funny as ever. I think this is going to be a very fun show. I hope they will continue to play it to adults and not feel the need to water it down for family audiences. It's a great premise and one I think lots of women can relate to. Premieres Sept 21 8:30 et/pt

So that was it. The CW shows I missed were The Beautiful Life, Melrose Place, and Life UneXpected, Check those out and let me know what you think. Happy viewing!!

The Good Wife

Guess what? I found a lawyer show I like. CBS sent me a screener with some of their fall season shows on it. So far the only one I've watched is The Good Wife. It was fabulous. I loved it. It stars Julianna Margulies as the wife of a fallen city official. It's the old story city official loves call girls, reporters love story, career goes up in flames, wife has to stand on podium with odius spouse while he plays mia culpa. Pig husband played by a little actor named Chris Noth. Have I mentioned I kind of like him??
Anyway, After husband is out of work and in the pokey she returns to her previous career as a lawyer and that's where the series begins. It is really well written and the supporting cast is amazing. This is a definitely going to be a hit show. Don't miss it.

It Premieres Sept 22 at 10PM on CBS don't miss it.
