Roadies coming to @Showtime This Summer @Sho_Roadies #Roadies

ROADIES  cast coming to Showtime June 26th

Roadies has announced it will premiere June 26th on Showtime!!!!!

With Manhattan being cancelled on WGNA this couldn't have come at a better time. I know it is very different in subject matter and tone but I'll bet it will be high quality television and that's all I care about.

I have been dying to see this show since it was announced last year. It comes from writer director Cameron Crowe, who I love, and chronicles the life of the people who make the rock shows we love. If you've spent anytime back stage at a show you know there is a lot of story to tell there.

Starring Luke Wilson, Carl Gugino, and a great supporting cast including Luis Guzman.

They just released the trailer with a song by Eddie Vedder and quote by Tom Petty. ENJOY

2016 TCM Classic Film Festival Announcement #TCMFF

TCM Classic Film Festival is a high point of my year. This year's festival is being held April 28-May 1st. Today they've released a few more of the films they'll be showing and there are some great restorations among them and they announced that Gina Lollobrigida will be in attendance. For more info on guests.

Here's the complete list of today's film announcements.

Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell (1968) – Featuring an appearance by Gina Lollobrigida
Starring Gina Lollobrigida, this film, presented in collaboration with Park Circus, showcases her comedic skill and natural charm (and earned her a Golden Globe® nomination) in this tale of a woman confronted by three former lovers who have been sending support checks to help raise the daughter each thinks is his.
Trapeze (1956) – Featuring an appearance by Gina Lollobrigida
Gina Lollobrigida made her U.S. film debut, proving herself as talented as she was beautiful, in this tense tale of a female acrobat who comes between the partners in a trapeze act, played by the ever-athletic Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis, presented in collaboration with Park Circus.
Children Of A Lesser God (1986) – Featuring an appearance by Marlee Matlin
Marlee Matlin won a Best Actress Oscar® for her film debut as a rebellious deaf woman whose life is transformed by an innovative teacher (William Hurt). Their powerful performances anchor this unique film, with a new print courtesy of Paramount Pictures in celebration of its 30th anniversary in 2016.

A special presentation of this classic silent film with Richard Einhorn’s original score performed by a live orchestra and chorus conducted by Dr. Mark Sumner, which brings exciting new life to director Carl Theodor Dreyer’s searing account of the trial and execution of St. Joan.
The Kid (1921)
Charles Chaplin’s first feature as star, director, writer and producer drew on his childhood experiences to create a heartwarming story of a tramp who adopts an abandoned child. Shown in a North American premiere restoration presented in collaboration with Janus Films.
The Song Of Bernadette (1943)
Jennifer Jones gives a luminous (and Oscar-winning) performance as Bernadette Soubirous, the real-life peasant girl whose visions of the Virgin Mary inspired the townspeople of Lourdes in the 19th-century shown in a world premiere restoration presented in collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox.
The Keys Of The Kingdom (1944)
Gregory Peck became a star and earned his first Oscar nomination playing a priest stationed in China whose devotion to the poor keeps him from rising within the church, shown in a world premiere restoration presented in collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox.
Private Property (1960)
TCM presents, in collaboration with Cineliciouspics, the world premiere restoration of this acclaimed independent film, an L.A. noir starring Corey Allen and Warren Oates as two small-town crooks trying to seduce a beautiful blonde.

There are still passes available, but only the lower levels. You can buy TCM Film Festival passes here.

Hope to see all my old friends at the festival this year, and of course make some new ones! Hopefully, we'll have another announcement about films and appearances soon...STAY TUNED!

What To Watch In The #NewYear!

There are a few shows I am super excited about for 2016. And here they are.

DOWNTON ABBEY begins it's farewell season JANUARY 3RD on PBS.

We all love this show and are sad to see it go, but I look forward to finally seeing them all settled in their lives. Please god let Lady Edith get a happy ending at long last...

YOUNGER returns to TV Land for season 2 with a one hour season premier JANUARY 13TH.

Comedies I like are few and far between but this one is a real winner. If you didn't catch the first season you have almost 2 weeks to catch up - do so immediately!

BILLION is a new show coming to SHOWTIME you can stream the pilot starting JANUARY 1ST but it won't air on the network until JANUARY 17TH.

The show stars Damien Lewis + Paul Giamatti, which really is enough to recommend it, but it also features MAD MEN alum Maggie Siff (Rachel Menken Katz to this Mad Men uber fan). She is really great!

BILLIONS is about the financial world with Damien as a hedge fund guy and Giamatti as the US attorney who wants to bring him down. It is extremely intense and I will warn you the opening scene of the pilot has some VERY strong sexual/violent/gross content, but that is not the norm of the show. I highly recommend this one.

So there they are my top picks. There are a few other shows I'm curious about but not convinced about like VINYL (HBO Feb14) and X FILES (FOX Jan. 24).

Here's to a happy new year of television viewing!

Doctor Who starts Sept.19 And Trailer #DoctorWho @BBCAmerica #TV

Excellent good news today for all Whovian kind. Our beloved Doctor Who will return September 19th to BBC America!

That's really all the news I have besides this lovely trailer.

BBC does have this little request however. "So as you may have noticed, the Series 9 Teaser trailer has been set free into the universe! But what’s it all about? Who was that guy? What was that thing? Why was she standing beside her?!? We need to know! But we also need to hear what you think. Tweet us your thoughts – the crazier and more creative the better! We’re at @bbcdoctorwho and would love to hear from you!"

So Enjoy!

And here's a little blurb from the press release.
Meeting monsters old and new the Doctor will come face to face with Missy (Michelle Gomez), a city of Daleks, deadly mercenaries called the Mire, terrifying ghosts and more.

Having filmed in Cardiff since January, Peter Capaldi said:

“Soaring through all of time and space, series nine sees the Doctor throw himself into life with a new hunger for adventure. The Cosmos is there for the taking, thrilling, epic and enticing, and his to play in. But he’s almost reckless in his abandon. It’s almost like he’s running from something, something that if it ever catches him will turn his life upside down.”

Previously announced and taking up a guest role in the new season will be young new talent Maisie Williams, having already achieved global success for her role as Arya Stark in the fantasy drama series Game of Thrones. Michelle Gomez (Missy) returns to plague the Doctor and Clara in the season opener, and UNIT are back with Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver (Osgood) returning to season nine following their popular entrance in season eight. Also confirmed as guest cast in the new series are Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye, Joivan Wade and Sophie Stone.

Mad Men Series Finale #MadMen @AMC_TV @MadMenCast #TV

So sad to be coming to the end of Mad Men tonight. It's been a wonderful ride and I hope it has one last thrilling loop for us tonight.

My final predictions are for Peggy and Stan to at least allude to a relationship developing, Don raising his boys, Pete and Trudy off in Witchita, Joan going into business with her new man, Roger living out his golden years on the 26th floor with Marie at home, and of course Betty pushing up daisies.

I doubt I will ever get to find out what Joan's medical condition was, but I guess you can't have everything. Maybe some years from now Weiner will open up his vault and tell us all the secret back stories...A girl can dream.

My co host Jeremiah Panhorst and I will be watching the finale together in Los Angeles tonight and then doing our last show recap podcast. We always run a bit late but I'm guessing we should be live by 8:30 pt or 11:30 et.

I'll add the podcast video here later tonight but if you want to watch live you can find the
live Mad Men Podcast here.

Bessie Smith On HBO tonight #TV #Bessie @HBO

Tonight at 8PM HBO is premiering BESSIE, the bio pic of Bessie Smith famous singer of the 1920s and 1930s, starring Queen Latifah. For me Bessie Smith is inextricably linked to pre code film with her famous rendition of St. Louis Blues that can be heard in so many films of the era. I can't wait to see how her life is depicted.

Here she is a rare film short appearance from 1929, Bessie comes in at 4:20 and sings at 6:57. This film also features Jimmy Mordecai as the worst boyfriend in the world.

The network description:

Queen Latifah stars as legendary blues singer Bessie Smith in this HBO Films presentation, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Dee Rees from a screenplay by Dee Rees and Christopher Cleveland & Bettina Gilois. With a story by Dee Rees and Horton Foote, the film focuses on Smith’s transformation from a struggling young singer into “The Empress of the Blues,” who became one of the most successful recording artists of the 1920s and is an enduring icon today. BESSIE also stars Michael Kenneth Williams, Khandi Alexander, Mike Epps, Tika Sumpter, Tory Kittles, Oliver Platt, Bryan Greenberg, with Charles S. Dutton and Mo’Nique. Executive produced by Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, Lili Fini Zanuck, Richard D. Zanuck, Shelby Stone, and Randi Michel. Ron Schmidt produces.

Will Aquarius Pick Up Where Mad Men Leaves Off #MadMen #Aquarius #TV

Aquarius NBC starring David Duchovny

All of us who were momentary excited about LA in the 1970s on Mad Men can now redirect our attention to Aquarius, which will feature LA in the late 1960s. Aquarius Stars David Duchovny as Sam Hodiak, a LAPD homicide detective from the previous generation, who is investigating a missing girl. The story is tied in with the Manson family ( or the Manson Brothers, as Meredith on Mad Men calls them). It's retro and serial killer...I think a network exec just died and went to heaven. Even if it is riding a decidedly petering out wave of TV genre and based on nothing but the trailer I'm gonna say this looks like a winner.

I also like that it is on network TV so it can't go to that gratuitous sexual, violent, sometimes both at the same time, place that cable often feels the need to.

2 hour series premieres Thursday May 28 on NBC and already has a straight to series order for 13 episodes.

Here is the network description and trailer. ENJOY!

Los Angeles. 1967.

Sam Hodiak (David Duchovny, "Californication," "The X-Files"), a decorated World War II vet and homicide detective, barely recognizes the city he's now policing. Long hair, cheap drugs, rising crime, protests, free love, police brutality, Black Power and the Vietnam War are radically remaking the world he and the Greatest Generation saved from fascism 20 years ago.

So when Emma Karn (Emma Dumont, "Salvation," "Bunheads"), the 16-year-old daughter of an old girlfriend, goes missing in a sea of hippies and Hodiak agrees to find her, he faces only hostility, distrust and silence. He enlists the help of Brian Shafe (Grey Damon, "True Blood," "Friday Night Lights") - a young, idealistic undercover vice cop who's been allowed to grow his hair out - to infiltrate this new counterculture and find her.

The generational conflict between the two is immediate and heated, yet they're both dedicated officers and soon realize the need to bring Emma home is more urgent than they foresaw. The immediacy arises because she has joined a small but growing band of drifters under the sway of a career criminal who now dreams of being a rock star: Charles Manson (Gethin Anthony, "Game of Thrones").

Ringing with the unparalleled music of the era, "Aquarius" is a sprawling work of historical fiction that begins two years before the 1969 Tate-LaBianca murders. It's a shocking thriller, a nuanced character drama and, in the end, the story of how we became who we are today.

Writer John McNamara ("In Plain Sight") serves as executive producer with Marty Adelstein ("Prison Break"), David Duchovny and Melanie Greene. "Aquarius" is a production of Tomorrow Studios.

Update: NBC will be making the entire season of shows available on NBC.com, The NBC app, and all other VOD platforms after the 2 hour premiers tonight. The future is here and apparently it is all about binge watching.

Fonda & Tomlin are Grace and Frankie @netflix #TV @GraceandFrankie #GraceandFrankie

Grace and Frankie Cast Waterston, Tomlin, Fonda, Sheen

Netflix is releasing Grace and Frankie May 8th. Make note of that I will be completely off the grid that day to binge all 13 episodes. Just look at the cast and you know it's going to be amazing. Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda play the wives of two men who announce they are in love and want to get married. Afterward they develop a "friendship" to cope with their stages of grief for their respective marriages. I have no problem believing hilarity will ensue. I could watch these four read the phone book, but this looks to be a very funny situation set in a painful life transition.

Mad Men Posters from Beginning To End #MadMen #TV

Mad Men Final 7 Episode Poster

Well here it is our last ever Mad Men Poster. Don is driving off into the sunset glancing in his rear view mirror. If we really wanna pick it a part his collar is loosened. I'm hoping this is an indication that he is free of all his lies and is moving on to the real Dick Whitman/ Don Draper.

OK I admit I blew it up and tried to figure out what was reflected in the back of the side view mirror. Could be a train or a plane..or really anything. It's probably nothing but I want clues! We have 5 weeks  to wonder and then 7 episodes to find out.

Mad Men's Last episodes Trailer #MadMen #TV

Mad Men cast enters the 70s

Mad Men returns for it's final episodes April 5th. It's heart breaking to think of it ending but I also can't wait to see how this all wraps up.

At the TV Critics press panel the cast said they were all pretty happy with their characters developement. But of course gave no further detail on what we could expect.

This new trailer has just been released and it looks like they're all at a lovely garden party, with a distinct possibility of a key party breaking out at any time.

The song is Love Hangover which was a big hit for Diana Ross in 1976. Could this mean a big jump forward in time for these last episodes?? Or was it just the perfect song?? Can't wait to find out!

15 TV Shows To Get You Through To Summer #TV

New network POP's new show Schitt's Creek

There's a whole new crop of shows, plus some returning favorites, coming over the next few months. Some of the shows on this list are sure things, as far as I'm concerned, and other may be wishful thinking. one thing is for certain, the level of actor drawn to TV these days is really impressive. I'm sure there will still be misses but I'm guessing not because they couldn't get a stellar cast. These shows have so many Oscar nominees it should shame the film industry into creating better work.

Check out the trailers and tell me if you don't agree. We gotta check these out!

Would you want to be 25 again? @TVland @VH1 #Hindsight #Younger #TV

Younger coming to TV Land March 31. 2015
We've all heard the questions, "What would you tell your younger self?" or "What would you do differently if you could go back to your 20s?" or "Would you want to be 25 again?".  Now we have not one but two shows that are playing out those very questions.

First there is Hindsight which started it's run on Wednesday on VH1 last week. This show has a 40 something woman who in a crisis moment passes out and wakes up back in the mid 1990s to relive her life with all the knowledge of her first try at it. Do you do it all the same? Do you make changes and hope it doesn't adversely effect your future?

Then this Spring, Younger, comes to TV Land with the story of a 40ish woman who after raising her daughter and divorcing is struggling to reenter the work force. After being mistaken for a 20 something she and her friend give her a make over and presto chango she is young and hireable. But keeping up that illusion may be a full time job in itself.

Personally, the idea of being in my 20s again sounds exhausting. But I have to admit I really enjoyed the pilot episode screener of Younger and the first episode of Hindsight was really good too. I mean do you ever really get tired of hearing The Blues Travelers and in a fictional world one more night out with my 20 something girl friends could be REALLY fun.

Season 2 Broadchurch Trailer @BBCAmerica #Broadchurch #tv

BBC America Broadchurch Cast

First off if you're watching Broadchurch on Fox AKA the American version of Broadchurch MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

I don't know why it never occurred to me that the second season of Broadchurch would be the court case. I guess because it seemed like an open and closed case. But the trailer for season two throws a major wrench in those works.

Can't wait for March 4th return of Broadchurch on BBC America

Fortitude on PIVOT #TV @Pivot_TV

Pivot is premiering their first original drama series, Fortitude, on January 29. The first episode will be a two hour special. The 12-part one-hour series, starring Stanley Tucci, Richard Dormer and Michael Gambon, airs Thursdays at 10:00 pm with encores every Friday at 10:00pm ET. I hear Stanley Tucci and I'm in!

Here's the network description: The dark drama series set in the melting Arctic, featuring psychological and thriller elements, tells the story of the small idyllic town of Fortitude, whose peaceful existence is shattered after a brutal and shocking murder. Above-average temperatures lead to a record ice melt revealing secrets long since hidden beneath the frozen landscape. Sheriff Dan Anderssen (Richard Dormer) leads the investigation and is forced to work alongside DCI Morton (Stanley Tucci), a detective who has flown into town from the mainland to contribute his forensic expertise. As the search for the killer progresses, their list of suspects – and suspicions of each other– grows.

The show definitely has a creepy Twin Peaks feel. The pace is slow, so you need to down shift into it. I think it will be a fascinating ride. It also stars Jessica Raine, who you'll remember from the Good Wife. Also Christopher Eccelston who was once Doctor Who and more recently was on The Leftovers. So as you can see they aren't hurting for a talented cast.

If you're wondering where to find Pivot or if your cable provider has it.

Smithsonian Channel's Million Dollar American Princesses @SmithsonianChan #DowntonAbbey #TV

Million Dollar American Princesses on The Smithsonian Channel is a 3 part series premiering January 4th. It explores the time between the 1870s and the outbreak of World War One, when more than 200 daughters of America's new industrial millionaires marry into the money-strapped British aristocracy. They use their affluence, allure and ingenuity to their advantage, and they bring dramatic changes to the English ruling class and eventually the world.

The series is narrated by Elizabeth McGovern, our Lady Cora from Downton Abbey, whose character embodies just such an American heiress married to an English nobleman during that period. The series is fascinating for Downton Abbey fans. It's a great peak into what Cora's life in America and her tranistion to Lady might have been. It makes me long for a Downton Abbey prequel!

Episode Guide

MILLION DOLLAR AMERICAN PRINCESSES: CASH FOR CLASS
Premieres Sunday, January 4th at 8 p.m. ET/PT
The series begins with the gentility of the late Victorian period and a profile of America’s Jennie Jerome, whose son, Winston Churchill, was arguably the most famous statesman of the 20th century. Beautiful, educated and headstrong, Jennie met Lord Randolph Churchill at a dance, and it reportedly was love at first sight for both. Jennie was a wonderful spirit, writing to her betrothed: “I won’t marry you unless you let me do exactly as I like.” A Brooklyn-born heiress, she grew up in a Manhattan mansion worth $253 million (in today’s dollars, accounting for inflation), but still was not accepted by Manhattan society. In England, it was not much better. No matter how much of her father’s money was pumped into the family estate, Jennie was keenly aware of always being looked down upon by the gentry.

MILLION DOLLAR AMERICAN PRINCESSES: WEDDING OF THE CENTURY
Premieres Sunday, January 11th at 8 p.m. ET/PT
More than a century before paparazzi buzzed overhead in helicopters to take photos of celebrity weddings, people clamored for gossip about the unions of the fabulously rich and famous. Consuelo Vanderbilt – of those Vanderbilts – was reared to be a princess. As an American, she had no claim on title. Instead, her mother, who could give assertiveness training to any stage mother or tiger mom, groomed Consuelo for nobility. Once Consuelo was old enough, her mother sought a world stage for the girl, with no thought given to anything as superfluous as love. And so she was married off to the Duke of Marlborough on Nov. 6, 1895, at Manhattan’s St. Thomas Episcopal Church, while throngs ringed the block, hoping for a glimpse of them. Tabloid press was salacious then, too, and there were even stories about her undergarments. Theirs, though, was hardly a fairy tale marriage; in fact, she was late to the church because she was crying. At the altar, the duke never even glanced at her, which was, unfortunately, a preview of their relationship.

MILLION DOLLAR AMERICAN PRINCESSES: Movers and Shakers
Premieres Sunday, January 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT
In the final installment of the series, the Jazz Age is in full swing and the Depression sets in. Through news clips and interviews, viewers learn about an infamous romance between an American and a member of British royalty that is considered one of the greatest love affairs in history. What else could it be when a king abdicates his throne for a woman? Edward VIII loved the twice-divorced American Wallis Simpson more than his birthright. Historians acknowledge that his abdication may very well have been a boon for history. “I am perfectly sure that it is one of the best things that ever could have happened,” says Viscount John Julius Norwich, “because I think he was so stupid, and I think he was completely unfit to be king of England, particularly with the war coming on, because he was at this time talking to everyone about what a wonderful chap he thought Hitler was. So I think you could say Mrs. Simpson had saved the country, the empire, and quite possibly the world."

Broadchurch Returns February 4 @BBCAmerica #Broadchurch #TV

Broadchurch cast Season 2 BBC America

The English TV production of Broadchurch returns to BBC America February 4th. I'll admit that I haven't really been motivated to watch the American version on Fox. Having seen the British version I can't imagine improvement is possible. If you are watching the American version and don't know how the show ends you may want to stop reading here.

Beyond this point there be first season SPOILERS

It looks like the second season will have Olivia Colman as DS Ellie Miller. The trailer is a rehash of the first season with the tag line The End Is Where It Begins, but that she appears in the trailer I think is a good indication we will be following her to her new life.

Of course another good indication is her presence in the cast photo which also includes other members of the Broadchurch community. I had assumed that the second season would be taking place in another town. If your husband molested and killed a boy in your town, moving would seem like the obvious choice, but looking at this cast, I'm guessing Ellie has decided to tough it out. That oughta' lead to some tense exchanges...

Can't wait to see what they have in store for us!
